Gweedore Celtic 1 Rathmullan Celtic 5

Rathmullan had a convincing victory over the home side at the Screaban today. With the pitch wet from rain the ball was zipping off the surface and Rathmullan made the most of it with sharp passing and good movement.

Gweedore were consistently closed down early and often forced to go direct up to Thomas Diver and Colin Ferry. With both Rathmullan centre-halves very strong in the air this left the strikers surviving on scraps. Too often when the home side had possession the final ball was inaccurate.  Despite this, Colin Ferry had the first real chance of the match on fifteen minutes when he bravely won a header which came off the  the crossbar.

Midway through the first half the visitors fired home two goals. A break down the right  allowed a ball to be played in low across the Gweedore box. Two Rathmullan players missed attempts before the ball rolled to Oisin McMenamin who tapped in at the far post.  Three minutes later the lead was doubled, a good build up from Rathmullan was finished by Dara Patton who was unmarked eight yards out.

Gweedore came out fighting at the start of the second half and tried hard to reduce the deficit. Ten minutes into the second half the game was finished as a contest as Eamonn Sheridan held off two challenges to lob into the top-right corner. With the home side deflated Rathmullan had the game well and truly sown up on seventy minutes when they again scored a quick brace. Thomas Diver scored a consolation goal ten minutes from time.
A good performance by Rathmullan but its a game to forget for the home side.
