A tough match on Sunday 9th March ended honours even in Milford. Milford were looking for three points to keep alive their slim title hopes and were clearly up for the match. The away side were not to be found wanting when it game to matching the determination and physicality of the home side. The defence of Paul Rua, David McGee, Jamie Boyle and Kevin Friel were on top form and prevented Milford from creating any clear cut chances.
Gweedore had the ball in the Milford net on the half hour following good work by Brendan McGeady on the wing who picked out Ownie McGarvey and his cross into the box was headed in by Colin Ferry. Unfortunately the referee blew for offside against Ferry which appeared to be the wrong decision.
The second half followed the first with more tackles than chances. Gweedore’s central midfield of Damien O’Sullivan and Cathal Campbell prevented Milford from getting time on the ball and they were restricted to continuously launching free kicks into the box. With Milford becoming frustrated and playing four up front as the clock ticked down, Gweedore Celtic battled on to earn an important point.
